Visionary Gift Secures Foundation Future

The Hillside School Challenge Grant for the IECA Foundation has been announced. The money will be used to establish the first IECA Foundation Endowment.

The Massachusetts junior boarding school has pledged a gift of $100,000 to the IECA Foundation, based on a challenge that can double the impact of their leadership gift. Hillside has agreed to match, dollar-for-dollar donations to the new endowment fund, up their total pledge.

"In very significant ways, this grant guarantees the future of our Foundation," said Steve Antonoff, Foundation Chair. "We've never had an endowment and Hillside's generosity gives us a chance to grow and prosper."

David Beecher, Headmaster of Hillside School in Marlborough, Massachusetts, and Foundation Trustee, presented the challenge at the recent Foundation Board meeting. "Because we feel so strongly about the mission and the value of the Foundation, we want to be part of a concerted effort to raise the full $200,000," said Beecher.

"We challenge members and other donors to join us in ensuring the stability of the Foundation over the next decades," Beecher said, "Our targets are new contributors and new gifts."

According to Beecher, "Since we're in the season . . . Martin Luther King said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?' Hillside is happy to help and I am honored to be part of the Foundation."

"Hillside has challenged us and the ball is in our court," Antonoff said. "We need to be more aggressive in our fund raising efforts. David has faith in us and now it's our turn to respond to the challenge."

The IECA Foundation has grown steadily over 12 years. It has provided over $300,000 in grants to innovation youth organizations and educational non-profits as well as professional advancement programs over those years.

Brooke Dudley, Founding Chair of the Foundation, said, "It's been a dream from the beginning to establish an endowment. This is a great day in the life of the Foundation and we are immensely grateful to Hillside."

Hillside School is an independent boarding school for boys in grades 5 through 9. With an enrollment of 150, the school attracts both traditional learners who want a more personalized education, and boys with learning differences and/or attention problems. Recent Hillside graduates have matriculated at such schools as Taft, St. Mark's, Nobles, St. Andrew's, Eagle Hill and Williston, representing the range of boys Hillside serves.
