Message from the Chair

Steve AntonoffI'm in the midst of writing a lecture for one of my UCLA on-line classes. It's a class focused on helping new or prospective consultants understand the world of educational consulting. So much has changed in our profession over the past few years and I'm trying to give students a sense of the excitement we feel.

In the lecture, I cover about the IECA Foundation. My fingers worked overtime as I wrote about the Foundation. They were moving at a quick clip because I had so much I wanted to share. I wanted the students to know about the good work the Foundation is doing, about how many people it is helping, and about what having a successful Foundation says about our values as a profession.

Am I biased toward the Foundation? You bet. But I believe my bias comes with good reason.

This Foundation has grown in so many significant ways during its first decade. The Foundation has established a tradition of caring and of giving. We have supported over 50 organizations and given over $900,000.

This was another growth-oriented year for us. As you see on these pages, the Foundation supported many worthy organizations in 2006-2007. Grant proposals considered by the Foundation more than doubled, and thus we could be more precise in finding the projects that most directly matched our mission.

In this Report, you will also see the names of those whose generosity made those grants possible. Thank you. Whether your gift is large or small, we are grateful that you put the Foundation on your list of organizations worth supporting. If you haven't yet pitched in, I hope you will do so soon.

During this year, Brooke Dudley stepped down as Chair. Brooke is the Founding Chair of the Foundation and its leader during many formative years. I follow Brooke, but can't fill his shoes. What I can do is express my thanks publicly to a man whose vision, encouragement, and generosity led to the existence and the success of the Foundation. And I can promise you that I will do my best to move us in creative and significant ways.

The IECA Foundation is unique. There is nothing like it in the world of educational consulting. You created it, you supported it, and you will determine its future.

I write on behalf of the dedicated women and men who serve on our Board. They join me in extending appreciation for your commitment to our work.

We need your ideas and we need your ongoing support.

With friendship and thanks,

Steve Antonoff
